Teenager Jailed for Distributing Child Pornography

A 17-year-old resident of Georgia in the US was arrested for hacking private phones and stealing explicit photos of children. He then posted the photos on illegal adult websites.

According to 9News, Michael William Cook, of Acworth, Georgia, targeted people under 18. He sent his victims a text message that appeared to originate from a photography company (Maxi Focus Photography) and invited users to install an application on their handsets that, unbeknownst to them, was malicious. Cook used the application to access those devices at will.

“He took the pictures out of there and sent them to pornographic web sites,” said Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce.

Apparently the focus of the young hacker was mostly explicit photos that he could post on illegal adult sites known for hosting explicit photographs of children.  And he has been distributing photos of his victims for three months, from November 2012 to January 2013.

The teenage hacker is looking now at eight counts of cruelty to children and one count of child exploitation.

Police seized Crook’s computer and are looking through all photos on the system to identify other possible victims.

All those who received a text message from Maxi Focus Photography are asked to call the Cobb County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit at 770-801-3470.
